TOO MUCH FUN

Alot has happened in the past ten days. First, Dave and Gary joined the group. We now have 6 of the trans am riders with us. IT IS A ROLLING PARTY. I have been really bad about writing or even keeping notes. I wanted to enjoy every moment I could
with my buds. So, I didnt remove myself to write. Consequently, I am combining to past ten day or so in this short entry to say we have had a blast. It is the age old addage," too much fun, so little time".

Day 246 - Monday 9-16-02 - mileage today 16.6 – MILEAGE TO DATE = 10,272.15
From Edmonds to Port Townsend

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD
Today is my dads 65th birthday. My dad lives in Copperopolis, Ca. where is the priest at the local Episcopal Church.  I love and miss you dad. It was great to talk to you today. I had a great couple of days visiting an old friend Amy and her boy friend Justin. They let me lounge and rest. They showed me around Seattle and took me to Pikes Market Place. Justin fixed several wonderful meals. He is a great cook. Amy fixed a great desert that I can’t pronounce. It was really a treat to see Amy again and to meet Justin. I rode from Dave's parents house where I stored my bike for the weekend. They were kind enough to receive us on Saturday. They fixed Dave and I a great lunch and let me take a shower before Dave drove me to Amy's. They also stored my bike for the weekend. I took the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston. I rode about 10 mile out of Kingston before my bottom bracket broke. I had to hitchhike into Port Townsend to have my bike fixed. I camped at Fort Warden State Park.

Day 247 - Tue 9-17-02 - Mileage today 7.3 – MILEAGE TO DATE = 10,279.45
Rest day in Port Townsend

I lay over here today to get my bike fixed and wait for Myron and Chuck. They were suppose to be here last night but they never showed. I called but nobody has heard from them.  I finally got message late today that they took the ferry from Vancouver to Port Angeles. Port Angeles is about 50 miles from here. I will meet them tomorrow.

Day 248 - wed 9-18-02 - mileage today 83 – MILEAGE TO DATE = 10,362.45
From Port Townsend to Fairholm State Park

I got up early and set out to catch up with Myron and Chuck. I heard last night that they were in Port Angeles not Port Townsend as we discussed earlier. It is only about 53 miles away. If I cycle hard I can catch them early afternoon and get a few more miles in with them.  When I got to port Angeles I found out that they continued on to Forks which is about 57 miles away. I continued on and tried to make forks but it was too far. They weather has quickly turned for the worse. It looks as if it will rain at any minute. I decided that I would camp at Fairholm.  I will try and catch them in the next few days. They might go up to the rain forest. If they do I can catch them tomorrow night. I pulled into Fairholm and met the one and only other person in the park, Kia.  Kia is a wonderful young girl who came over to invite me to join her for dinner. Shortly, we had other campers who came in and join us. It was nice to have a group of young free spirited people who enjoy the outdoors to share the evening with. I was really tired from cycling so far and not getting a good night sleep last night but I was having so much fun with my new friends I didn’t care.

Day 249 - thurs 9-19-02 - mileage today 55 – MILEAGE TO DATE = 10,417.45
From Fairholm to Rainbow Youth Hostel

Kia and I and decided to go hiking up to Marymount falls and them maybe go to the beach. On our way to the Forks we saw Myron. We all met up at a coffee shop. It was raining, so it was a great place to hang out. It was real good to see Myron. He wasn’t as far as he thought he would be. Chuck is ahead of him. We all hung out at the coffee house and decided to go grocery shopping and then to the Rainbow Youth hostel and cook dinner. Kia cooked us all a FANTASTIC meal. It was a good evening, sharing dinner and conversation. We ended up playing cards. I went to bed early. Being the old man I am, I can’t handle sooo much fun.

Day 250 - Friday 9-20-02 - mileage today 43 – MILEAGE TO DATE = 10,460.45
From the youth hostel to Amanda Park

We are almost all together again. Chuck had gone 17 miles into the rain forest to came. After saying good-bye to Kia and our other friends we were on our way. We are going to have a short riding day in order to let Chuck catch up..

Day 251 - Saturday 9-21-02 - mileage today 61.8 – MILEAGE TO DATE = 10,522.25
From Amanda’s Park to in the woods somewhere

We never did catch up with Chuck last night. We left message for him that we were going to Aberdeen today. I was ahead and found Aberdeen to be a big city. I talked with several people nobody knew of any camping in the area. I looked in the phone book and confirmed my suspicions. I called and left message with Myron and Chuck that I would continue on and search out a camping spot. I went to a town called Cosmopolis and could not find anything. So, I continued on. I'm now somewhere between Aberdeen and Raymond camped in the woods. I will go to Raymond early tomorrow and try to contact Myron and Chuck to let them know where I am and where I will meet them.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU

I would like to say a special thank you to BRENT at Phil Woods Products. I have a Phil wood bottom bracket that uncharacteristically failed. It had 11,000 hard miles on it. I contacted Brent at Phil Wood Products and told him of my problem. Brent; without question, overnighter me a new bottom bracket.  I was back on the rode the next day. I have to say that I'm very impressed with not only the quality of PHIL WOOD products; but also, with the quality of their service.  By the way, I have a Phil wood front hub that works beautifully.

THANK YOU BRENT,

Jim
